‘My Lord a messenger brings a report' from Tesso’ declares the Kings scribe Morgath momentarily forgetting his place before the King. He quickly makes an attempt to bow but is ushered by the King to bring the lurking messenger into the main chamber.
Sire,
As you may know the rumors from the street were of a declaration that unless contested that Tesso was under the control of the Clan named Three Rings. Talk of skirmishes and open combat reached me so as is my duty, I made my way to Tesso to observe.
When I arrived it was clear and all out battle was taking place. It seems the Three Rings leadership had staked a claim to the land, yet had already been fought back by an alliance consisting of Clan Fearghal and a mercenary unit supplied by the Dogs of War as well as lone fighter with a symbol of a cup later to be identified as the Black Grail of Nagash.
The battle came in waves, for at first glance I thought I had arrived at its conclusion. I soon heard the clash of steel and rumbles of thunder as though Crom him self were assaulting the rear of the village... the battle still raged and it was clear that the gauntlet had been thrown down, the challenge accepted!
The fight was bloody as stray arrows and magical fire lit-up the village. After a few minutes the fighting stopped all was quiet again and I saw from my position of safety the victors, Clan Fearghal, checking their wounded and preparing for a second onslaught by Khane Silver and his Three Ring army.
I managed to find my way to the side of the leader of the mercenary group holding Tesso, a captain of much repute named Sentenza and managed to get a brief message from him before the sounds of battle started again he said 'This war proves that mercenary warriors can do the job if you got the coin.' It would anger you but the Captains ability in battle was undoubtedly getting the better of your legion lead by general Khane Silver.
It might surprise you to know the Captain of the Dogs has recently taken on a Sergeant of great experience, Naridos of Poitian once from the Kings very own army. Together with the pure might and violence of the Northern tribes, Khanes men could not break through into the village.
Taking this opportunity I searched out the Three Rings camp and chanced upon the word of one attending the injured Three Ring soldiers 'We didn’t expect such resistance!' she gasped as she hurriedly dressed her kinsmen wounds. I then followed them to a meeting of leaders regarding one last stand away from the town, on the open plains north where the villagers would not suffer. Both forces agreed, departing they went to prepare their armies for a final showdown.
Positioning myself on some high ground I watched the alliance form up at the bottom of the hill, numbers increasing as fresh troops had arrived dressed in dark wolf furs unmistakably the menacing tribes loyal to the Fearghal.
Three Ring troops who took their time approaching the field of battle, a fairer fight awaiting them away from the vigilance of the civil guards and town militia. The top of the valley went silent the local wildlife culled or in hiding from the impending combat.
The battle raged back and forth, arrows and undead creations flying between the ranks but it was clear the Three Rings where once again loosing ground. Then it was done, the Three Rings leader Khane withdrew his remaining troops many scarred and weary. A solitary attacker clad in the dark furs, believed to be a member of the mighty Fearghal made one last wasted attempt on Khane’s life but was surrounded by floating brain like things and was killed painfully slowly. Yet more evidence of Khane’s acceptance and use of dubious evil magic’s.
I tried to get a parting comment from Khane but was received with silence but one of his advisors spoke and said 'The alliance that fights for Tesso have shown great strength and I have to admit... have proved worthy opponents'
Moving on to the tavern in Tesso I found the Clan Fearghal and Dogs of war in fine cheer and spoke to the leader of Clan Fearghal, Athair Tyman whose words were 'We fought as one! In true Fearghal manner.' but 'without the expertise of the Dogs of War we could have lost many warriors.'
If I may My lord? I heard from the Herald town crier some days ago that it was on your orders Khane's Army was sent to dispatch the bandits and opposing factions deemed a risk to your sovereignty? Your army met only the resistance of a well trained mercenary group undoubtedly paid and controlled by Tyrnan and his Fearghal counsel. There were no other factions present and yet the honourable legions of Khane fought alongside more than just trained Aqualonian soldiers unleashing a score of Stygian fighters and mages to aid his lordships proud legion.
My name my lord? It is Geraint my lord, forever your servant.
