The battle of Caenna

Sire I have received grave news from Count Trocero, Count of Poitian. It seems a coup has been attempted in the Village of Caenna! On Friday last it became apparent that Lucaro the son of the Mayor of Caenna had hired a band of Stygian mercenaries ((Crimson Rose)) to depose his father! Getting wind of this plot Baylian, baron of kerrick deployed his knights of Poitian to protect the Mayor ((played by Malphias of the Shadowstorm Supremacy)). Several warriors from Clan Fearghal led by their leader Tyrnan came to aid the knights and honour their long standing alliance.

Despite some initial victories against the Styigans scouts the allied mounted archers were soon cut down as a band of marauding picts attacked just at the time they were engaging the mercenaries. Stygian war rhinos soon took the bridge into Caenna and put the bridge guards to the sword. With much of his force dead or fighting for their lives against a horde of picts it fell to Baylian baron of Kerrick, Sir Astalos Firemane and the Jeanne shield maiden of Clan Fearghal to hold the entrance to the temple of Mitra and protect the Mayor.

The enemy attack on the temple came as a welcome relief to the defenders as they no longer had to listen to the whining Mayor and his attempts to advise them on the latest fashions prevalent at court. A brutal melee battle began with the stygians war rhino charging the temple doorway. As tough as the beast was it and its rider soon fell to the spears of Sir Astalos and Jeanne.

The enemy then attempted to rush the shield wall and the fight turned into a nasty slugging match. Tiernan and Ethias healers of the House of kerrick, succeeded in helping their comrades fight of the attack for some period of time before enemy numbers finally took their toll. In the end the defenders were brushed aside and the mayor in his foppish attire was slain.

The majority of the defenders were able to limp away from the battlefield. Baylian, baron of Kerrick was however carried of by the mercenaries in chains, his fate still unknown. Sir Astalos Firemane has since hung the mayors son for the traitor that he is. Sir Astalos has swore to lead an expedition into Stygia to rescue his beloved Baron.
