Mirror to the Soul... Eyes of a Spirit. (part 3)

As young Maelthe's strength grows so do disturbing visions of a great beast from another realm. Now Maelthe must conquer her fears to gather her mental strength to save her friends and family... We rejoin the story some days before Nashara's time runs out.

What in the name of Crom am i doing in the temple of Mitra anyway... why do i run away from her now... I knew this would happen someday... but why is it so hard to grasp this...

She slammed her hand on the side of the little water well in the middle of the temple..
She says he has been leaving her alone... I don't get it...What can have happened in those few hours that i was gone to make her change this much...

Looking outside Nashara was standing on her usual spot near the well.
Maybe i have been around her to much... she is a warrior after all and beyond that i know she does not need my company to make her feel better i am sure... And of all people i believe she can make this through... she is strong.. she knew that .. forgot that but what is this new strenght she found and ..

She shook her head called for Kira and ran off.. the grove...she needed some calmth.. why did this distance that had been so normal before now make her feel like she was choking...
It was about time it ended... not only did the black realm drain her but she felt she never really had a chance to truely recover from things.
"Damn you Nashara dont you be turning your back on us now girl.. you came so far... " She murmured more to herself while spurring Kira through the woods.
Why does it harm me this much to see her strong... i should be pleased.. my sister... she is getting stronger again able to battle... then why can I not be happy about this... why this fear... why this worry... she doesnt need me.. she never did...
She shook her head. She did need you Maelthe stop sulking..Even if just to be around...
"I wont give up on you that easily Nash...you called me your sister and i intend to be just that..."

The day had been longer then she had expected it to be and most of it had been spent on trying to gain time... time... there was never enough of it when you needed it and always more then enough when you didnt want it.
And then Sentenza... she had had to turn a lot of words and weigh a lot of toughts to get him persuaded that they where not the bad guys in this and that he would put himself at risk by carrying out this task...
Immortality.. good thing that that stygian fool had used that same promise on her... yet it had been a wild guess... but his eyes didnt lie...she had struck gold by saying it...
She allowed herself a proud smile.

And then she tought back of Myrtis...she had apologized for and explained what she had done... And Myrtis had wanted to tell her something but hesitated and then tought the better of it and didnt.
Later she showed up with a stygian cloaked guy who's eyes gave me chills and claimed him to be her friend.
Now it wont be the first Stygian who saves my life but this one...no...
And Nashara had seemed so relucant about him... or did she just want to keep up appearance.
That wall... the wall around her was back and the opening she had managed to slowly find and crawl through had seemed to colaps on her...she wanted to be near her but give her space at the same time... and this balance was getting harder and harder to keep today...
She shook her head... her toughts where chaotic...

Arriving in the grove she sank of her horse allowing it to run freely as it was used to this place by now.
She sat down between the roots of a tree and made herself comfortable.
"Faded from my eyes... beyond the words of truth and lies... i seek an answer to what has gone... a vision where this be shown... " she mumbled gently to herself and waited... waited...the wind picking up a lock of her hair and playing it around her forehead. The branches of the trees swaying and making creeking sounds...she waited...and time went on... minutes turned into hours... but she waited...
She could not count how long she had been there but the coldness around her and the sence of darkness around her made her feel it must have been early in the night. Strange how it weighed so much on her... this darkness...autumn seemed to have so much sooner this year....
She slowly opened her eyes and sighed...she gathered her cloak more around her, but as she turned her head she noticed them.
Two yellow eyes... peering at her from the low bushes. She sat as still as she could... staring back...not a blink... not a breath... only gazing. She felt a chill run down her spine... those eyes...they just looked...
but threat lay in them... it was to early for wolf packs to roam already this far ... this was not a mere wolf... those eyes...
Krid apeared besides her and his low growling made her feel warned to be cautious. She realized she had slipped into his realm. She nodded at Krid and gently patted him on the head lifting herself off the ground.. but when lost the contact with the two yellow staring eyes and looked back to find them they where gone...
Scared feelings came sneaking up on her and she readied her mace...
The bushes around the space where she was in where moving... the beast ... it was moving...
breathing...glaring... closing in ...
She turned to where the sounds of the moved leaves came from and she tried to focus on the situation... preparing herself to be attacked...preparing to move and anticipate on it... Her arms strongly holding her mace ready to smack whatever would jump at her. Krids jaw stood in a mean snarl... he was radiating his strenght... growling lowly warning whatever was around them that he was ready aswell...
And then they apeared again ... those yellow eyes... and with a smack she was blown back...knocked off her feet ... pushed on the ground and she could feel the warm breath of the beast cascading over her neck...she was staring straight into those yellow eyes... a glance to find Krid laying on the ground next to her... the beast brought his nose closer to hers nearly touching her face... his breath was like the dead.. rotten and foal...and then it spoke...
"You seek what your eyes can not handle yet shaman... you are growing daily... your strenght ... rising...you cross limits that are not yours to cross... and you believe to live through them all...
you seek answers to questions that are not yours to ask... you laughed in the face of death before...
but you never really met it... are you prepared to die... do you think you can handle beeing dead... "
"I.. have seen death..."
The beast let out a large bellowing roar silencing her... partly because she had not expected it but also because the smell of him was making her more sick then anything.. yet she could not shake a feeling of humility ..she had to listen to him...
"You think you have..." a drop of drool from the beast fell on her cheek running its way down to her ear.. she shivered in disgust...
"I will show you... " he seemed to carry a grin and then he faded...

A soft shake at her shoulder woke her up...
"Maelthe?" A woman stood before her.. she had to blink a few times to focus her eyes on the face...
Epiphania was smiling at her...
"What are you doing in the woods this late? Its dangerous, the wolves are howling and there is a threat in the air."
Maelthe could only stare ahead of her a moment..
"By Crom sister you are shaking... come... " Epiphania layed her cloak around Maelthe helping her to stand. She called for Kira who listened and came and they both started to make their way to the village.
She had seen this vision before... but this time it was longer... it seemed to get longer every time...what if death was really the next thing she would see...
