So it seems the mighty Scatach did not kill the Prophet but instead made a pact to do his deadly deeds. In return he is promised the return of his long dead wife... What will Scatach have to do to fulfill his end of the bargain?
Part 2: The Deception from Within
It was about midday and the forest suddenly leapt to life from the howls and pains of death as a large Grey Warg fell crashing to the ground, violently thrashing about as an arrow pierced its monstrous body. A short distance away I smiled pleased in myself for a fine shot that finally brought my quarry down. I had spent hours tracking this particularly large Warg and was happy in the knowledge that I would soon have a fine piece of animal skin to sell at the traders. This was a good kill that would fetch me a handsome sum of silver! I moved in on my prey as it lay there gasping its final breaths as its very life blood spilt out around its body. Death would come sooner for it now as I clubbed its skull with a large metal mace, finally extinguishing its life force.
I spent the next hour carefully removing the skin from the lifeless lump of meat in front of me, before going to work cutting up the rest as food. I salted the meat and stowed it in my hunting sack. It was time to rest so I found a large pile of boulders nearby in a clear opening and sat down to enjoy some food and rest a short while before returning to the settlement in Morragh.
It wasn't very long after that when I heard the flutter of wings and looked to see that a black pigeon had landed beside me. On its right leg there was attached a piece of parchment. Somehow I knew this was for me, and it wasn't by chance that this bird had landed here. Besides Black pigeons such as this are only found in Stygia. I unrolled the parchment and quietly read the words inscribed upon it. This is what it said,
Friend: The Holy Serpent has tested me. I was ambushed by your kin and clansmen, not killed but Injured.
Set is kind, he still wants me to carry out his work and words. For now I will rest and heal my wounds.
My lovely daughter Khaa will take my place. For the time been, you will give her the information I want from you.
The priests are preparing the final ritual for you to see your wife as we speak, to honour our sacred deal.
Pass what you know to my daughter Khaa. Set wills it.
Signed,
Imothep First Prophet and High Priest of Set and Set Mosis.
As I read those words a seething anger and resentment built inside me directed towards my brethren. How could they attack the very Prophet of Set like that. Barbaric swine! What insolence, what arrogance! my lord has shown that unlike those rabid Fearghal dogs he is both compassionate and kind. He is a man of his word.
It was in that moment that I hatched a plan against my fellow brothers and sisters. I would live with this act the rest of my life and one which I would truly regret, long after Sets dark power ceased to hold sway over me.
Lord Imothep had spoken of his desire to make an example of the Fearghal council, and one individual in particular he had marked for sacrifice. I would bring him this person as a gift. A gift to the first Prophet and to Set! Spilling the blood of this Fearghal would please Father Snake, and I would be rewarded in return.
I set in motion the wheels of my plan, plotting and scheming revenge on behalf of my master!
The Fearghal's would pay a price!
