Sire,
I am sure you have been eager to know what exactly occurred in Atzel's approach between the known bandit Reuben and Lord Tyrnan of Clan Fearghal. It has taken me some time to gather all of the information about the encounter and find the truth.
As you may know, Clan Fearghal has recently stepped up their efforts to eradicate the bandits and thieves infesting Hyboria. During their efforts they fought against the Highwaymen on several occasions. Ultimately this resulted in the deaths of several high ranking Highwaymen and most if not all of the lower members are either dead or in hiding. Apart from Reuben, who had been away during the most recent encounter.
When he heard the news that his friends were dead, he went into an insane rage. In his mind Tyrnan was a murderer, who had ended the lives of all those he held close to his heart. During this rage he randomly assaulted travelers journeying through Atzel's approach. Unfortunately (or maybe by design), his rampage led him to none other than Lord Tyrnan of Clan Fearghal who was hunting with a bodyguard in the mountains.
What happens next is not entirely clear, but what is definite is that Reuben attempted to kill Lord Tyrnan. Reports are contradictory here, some claim that Reuben was able to decapitate Tyrnan (which is preposterous, since he has been seen alive since the time of the attack), others say that Reuben, knowing he could not defeat Tyrnan in a fair fight, attacked him from behind. A few even seem to suggest that Tyrnan was simply bested by the Bandit, but the chances of this actually happening are slim. How many ruffians have you heard of that can beat a Lord of a Cimmerian clan in swordplay?
Nonetheless, Rueben was able to deal a mortal blow to Tyrnan but not before being badly wounded himself. He then engaged his bodyguard who fought the bandit off and forced him to flee the scene. Tyrnan was healed and is slowly recovering, and he sounds even more enthusiastic about continuing his campaign.
As for Reuben, well nobody really knows. It is thought that he died from his wounds in his escape, but no body has been found as of yet. We are still searching, but I fear that this is not the case. I think he has gone into hiding, he will soon hear that he did not achieve his goal, and that Tyrnan still lives. I don't believe we have heard the last of him, but I hope that I am proven wrong.
He... looks over his shoulder and whispers in a low voice... does not know however it was not your wish that his useful band of rogues was to be hunted in such a ruthless manor....
